Backup & Disaster Recovery

There was a single local backup, on the same server that would be the first victim of ransomware. It had never been tested, so no one knew whether it could be restored.

We implemented a 3-2-1 strategy with immutable copies (Object Lock), including off-site, impossible for an attacker to delete or encrypt. Most importantly, we established monthly restore tests, so recovery is a certainty, not a hope.

The peace of mind of knowing data is recoverable changed how the company views risk. The monthly tests turned backup from an assumption into a verified guarantee, and a possible infection would mean hours of recovery, not days of crisis and losses.

Regulations imposed strict continuity and recovery requirements, with documented and demonstrable RTO/RPO at audit. The existing setup could not be proven.

We implemented replication of critical systems to a second site, defined RTO and RPO together, and wrote a disaster recovery runbook, validated through a real failover test with documented results.

The ability to demonstrate continuity with concrete evidence simplified the relationship with auditors and authorities. Periodic failover exercises keep the team prepared, so a real disaster would be handled as a known, rehearsed scenario, not a surprise.

The practice had accidentally lost critical patient data, with no clear path to recovery. The risk of permanently losing medical information was real.

We implemented automatic backup with versioning and point-in-time recovery, encrypted and with a defined retention period. This means the data can be rolled back to its state at any moment in the previous days.

After the full data recovery, the practice operates with the safety net of automatic, versioned backup. A human error or a failure no longer means losses, just a simple rollback to an earlier version, in minutes.
